Amanda Bossard graduated from high school in 1992. She then began her studies in marine science at the Alaska Pacific University, Anchorage. Bossard began her professional career as a commercial seafood expert in 1999 when she began working as a crew member on the F/V Sunset 65' halibut schooner turned salmon tender for Murat Aritan. He has been a commercial fisherman since 1993. Bossard is currently married to Aritan and they have come together to prove their rights to the industry. They both believe in conserving and profiting from renewable resources in the industry of seafood. Otolith has opened its market direct wholesale distributor in Philadelphia after Bossard returned from living back home with her two daughters, Bella 3 years old and Andre 1, to Philadelphia. Otolith's name is a loving reference to Bossard's extensive knowledge about fish biology and her husband's vast connections to the business of fishing. They are often apart for five months each time they work towards financial and environmental goals that reflect their commitment and autonomy wherever they are. Bossard's children Isabella, age 12, and son Andre, age 10, return annually to Southeast Alaska to work in the deckhand position during wild salmon season. Following two years of fishing with hooks, lines and a 42-foot salmon trolling machine they joined Aritan and then sold to local seafood processors.
